What's new?
We want to thank EVERYONE who helped with our recent Ides of March tournament. We could not have done it without those who directed, helped with the bout table, contributed food, helped with set-up, etc.
We had an A rated Epee tournament, with 20 fencers competing. We also had 12 fencers at our Foil event. Those watching saw some really top-flight competition.
Congrats to all our EFC fencers who made touches and won bouts against some of the Northwest's best fencers, many of whom will be fencing in April at the North American Cup event in Portland. EFC fencers included: Dylan Merriam (placed 9th in epee event, highest EFC fencer with a rating, and 7th place in foil), Nolan Chase (placed 12th in epee event, highest EFC fencer without a rating!), and Jonathan Wallace (placed 16th in epee event, and 8th place in foil.)
We have some photos of the Ides of March Invitational. Take a look!

Equipment
EFC provides all basic fencing and safety equipment (mask, glove, jacket and weapon) free of charge for use in class. Please wear tennis shoes and comfortable clothes (no shorts, please) to each class period. There is a limited, but adequate supply of electric equipment for use by club members. However, we highly encourage purchase of personal equipment for competitive use. Please understand, due to the vast number of suppliers on the web, it is very easy to purchase equipment of questionable quality. We encourage you to discuss vendors with Paul who has 30 years experience purchasing, and who will help you get the best value for your money.
Class / Club fees
Monthly membership is $60/month, which includes 3 nights of fencing each week, including time at North Eugene on Mondays. Family rates available and also discounts for those paying for 3 months at a time. Those wanting to only fence one night a week on Tuesday or Thursday pay $45/month.
North Eugene: You can participate in this class free of charge, and get more time electric fencing, as part of your regular full (Roosevelt MS) EFC membership. Fencers who use only this facility (no Roosevelt MS classes) will pay $40.00/month and will register through the River Road Parks Department.

EFC thanks
The Eugene Fencers Club thanks Blue Gauntlet Fencing USA for their support and sponsorship of prizes of the EFCÕs 2008 Ides of March Invitational Tournament.
The Eugene Fencers Club also wishes to thank the City of Eugene Athletics Department and the Parks and Recreation Department for the very valuable sponsorship they have granted us over the years. Since 1978, the Athletics Department has provided us with facilities, staff time, gym use and most important, encouragement in our program. This has allowed the Eugene Fencers Club to flourish as an organization and has allowed us to provide a valuable alternative sport for the community at large. Many times through the years the many students who have gone through our program have confirmed their gratefulness to the Parks and Recreation Department for helping our program to be as successful as it has been. We look forward with gratitude to the continuing relationship with the City Athletics Department in the years ahead.
